Generosity lies less in giving much than in giving at the right moment. – Jean De La Bruyère

A strong wind blew in yesterday afternoon, bringing dozens of goldfinches flocking to our trees and hedge. They crowded ’round our three feeders in a frenzy, dive-bombing each other for room at the fourteen available spaces. The yellow male finally gave up and clung to the bottom of the feeder, where one of the others began feeding him black-oil sunflower seeds. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before – have you?

  1. Yes, I seem to witness it a lot, not with the Goldfinches, but with other birds.

Such a beautiful shot, Bonnie! BTW, I saw another finch, try the upside down eating maneuver. It was quite comical. He kept flipping around the perch, trying to get a seed, then falling off. I guess that he was wondering why the Goldfinch could do it and he couldn’t! I love to watch those birdies!

  2. Ooh such a treat for the eyes. Photos like this remind me of the illustrator/author Tasha Tudor. They have the kind of country simplicity I associate with those books from my childhood.
